Recirculated Aquaculture Systems

Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) is a method of farming fish or other aquatic organisms by reusing water.

The central aspect of this technology is using mechanical and biological filters to clean and purify the water, then sterilize it with Ozone or/and UV to make it apt for safe re-use. Any species grown in aquaculture can be grown in RAS, such as fish, shrimps, clams, algae, seaweed, phytoplankton etc.

The intensity of the recirculation depends on the amount of treated and reused water. Intensive RAS farms installed in the closed insulated building can reduce the new water intake to 300 liters (and sometimes even less) per kilo of fish produced per year.

RAS systems are used to drastically increase aquaculture production and assure optimal control over dissolved oxygen levels, water quality, temperature and production staging.

With its reduced water volume, and constant closed loop water exchange, it is ideal for exercising maximum control over dissolved oxygen levels to assure optimal conditions for a high Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and low mortality.

Depending on the level of water re-use, our control systems can mange pumps, filters, aerators, Oxygen Cones, feeders and most other parameters needed to fully automate the production.

We also offer a cloud based data collection, documentation, and management system(Cobaliá) that automatically captures measurements and production data into an easy accessible dashboard and control interface.

RAS Specialized Equipment

Central among our specialized solutions for RAS systems are our suite of water quality measurement probes and control equipment to assure firm control over dissolved oxygen, pH, CO2, Ozone, flow and every other water quality parameter.
